Launched in 2001, publicly-traded on the NYSE and Bovespa since 2004, acquired the passenger operations and Smiles mileage program of Varig in 2007 and Webjet in 2011, GOL is the largest airline in Brazil, with a fleet of over 120 aircraft, and is one of Brazil's 50 largest companies.

Richard has worked with GOL since 2003 in a variety of roles:
  • 2016-present: EVP, CFO, IRO, Executive Committee Chairman
  • 2008-2016: Non-executive Board Director, Chairman Risk Policies Committee, Chairman Financial Policy Committee, Member Audit Committee (financial expert)
  • 2003-2008: EVP, CFO, IRO, Executive Committee Member
 
At GOL, he is responsible for corporate, performance and financial policies and management, budgeting, risk management, financial statements, reporting, investor relations, M&A, governance systems and processes, and annual operating budget of US$3 billion.  Richard’s professional work has been recognized with awards for transactions and corporate governance, such as 2005 Latin American CFO of the Year by America Economia and as 2006 Brazilian Finance Professional of the Year by National Association of Finance, Administration and Accounting Executives. He has served on boards of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, IBAGEN and Associação Vida Jovem, and as president of the American Society of São Paulo.  A member of the Global Executive Leadership Program at Yale School of Management, Richard has a MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a BBA from the University of Notre Dame.  He studied at the Graduate Business School at PUC Chile, the Universidad de Guadalajara and at Università di Bologna. He is licensed portfolio manager (ANBIMA), an associate of Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC), and a licensed private pilot.  Richard is a 13th Gen American and a Brazilian citizen resident over 25 years in Latin America.
